Rockport Texas Redfish

Your Rockport fishing report for October 28th is pretty damn good! We are seeing, and catching, a bunch of fish every day. The weather has been great. Sun shining, low wind and good temps have made being out on the water very enjoyable lately.

Fly fishing in Rockport, and the surrounding areas, is very good. The water is still pretty high though. This has some spots a little off color. Especially with the right wind. But nothing that will shut you down at all. Just a bit of color here or there. The higher water still has fish spread out a fair bit. But again, not a problem at all. We are still seeing a ton of fish each day. And the best part… If you can get a fly to a fish with a decent presentation, they will eat it. They are eating everything they see! The other day we had landed a bunch of fish, so we started playing with flies for fun. They still ate everything we threw at them, including topwaters. So your Rockport fishing report includes hungry fish. Very hungry.

Today was the first morning in quite a few Rockport fishing reports where we can report a great number of tailing fish. Between 8am and noon we had seen closer to twenty schools of fish. Most containing 5+ fish. All were tailing and would eat anything put in their path. This has not been the norm as of late, with the higher water and all. So it was a welcome site.

Our best fly continues to be… anything presented properly! Chartreuse and white, shrimp, crap, etc. It doesn’t seem to matter right now. These fish are hungry. We are finding fish pushed as far back as they can get in the marshes, laying up in thick grass and also cruising shallow banks. The schools today were a welcome site, but have not been the norm. Let’s hope that trend continues. Nice to see tail in the low light of morning.

All in all, a pretty good Rockport fishing report. There are still some late Fall dates available and early winter dates for guided fly fishing are booking up very quickly. If you are interested in chasing redfish on the fly in the Rockport area, contact us and we can get your trips booked.
