Speckled Trout on the Fly in Seadrift, TX

As promised, an up to date Rockport fishing report to lead you into the weekend! So here is what we saw earlier this week, upcoming for the weekend and beyond.

The past week of fly fishing in Rockport was absolutely EPIC! Sunny skies, perfect temps and little to no wind were the norm each day. We were seeing tails every morning and plenty of fish cruising around throughout the day. And almost all were more than willing to eat for us. We also saw a good number of very large fish in a few spots. Over slot fish were the norm each day, but we also had a few real big boys out there, which is always fun.

Fly selection still doesn’t seem to matter too much. Most fish are eating damn near anything, if presented to them well. Topwaters worked in the morning, but crab, baitfish and shrimp patterns were all working too. If we had to choose a single favorite… the good old chartreuse and white is always reliable. But fish with confidence no matter what you decide to throw at them.

We do have a small, but violent, front moving through tonight and into tomorrow. As this is being written, there is an impressive thunderstorm happening right outside. Most of this will subside by morning it looks like, leaving sunshine and a cool North wind in its wake. Not all bad, but certainly cooler. Sunday looks better, with the North wind tapering off and bringing in a bit more normal weather to start the Thanksgiving holiday week.

The fish will need to adjust to this first reel cool weather of the Fall. So it will remain to be seen how they react tomorrow and Sunday. But we will be out there getting after it regardless. Most likely a little later starts to these cold mornings coming up. But the fish will be there, as the day warms.

The holiday week is looking pretty good weather wise. Expect a bunch of very hungry fish, as it warms following this weekend weather. So the first couple days of the week should be very good. And let’s hope these strong North winds blow just a bit more of this high water out of here. This would help clear up the last of the water that remains just a touch off color.

Over all though, the Rockport fishing report is still looking quite good. We are still booking a few late Fall dates, and of course there are winter dates available for guided fly fishing. But they are booking up quickly as we go. If you are interested in chasing redfish on the fly in the Rockport area, contact us and we can get your trips booked.
