Texas Redfishing with Fly Fish Rockport

After another pretty good week, here is an up to the minute Rockport fishing report for everyone. We weren’t able to get out on the water every day with a bit of weather, but are finishing the week strong. Weather is improving, and so should our Rockport fishing report for the coming week.

After a bit of stormy weather early in the week, we finally got a bit of a break. A few morning showers would linger a while, then give way to decent conditions in the afternoons. This made for some pretty good fishing, coming out of the storms. Plenty of fish moving around looking for food.

Today (Friday) we had dark clouds, annoying fog and completely flat wind for most of the day. Seeing cruising fish was a little tricky for sure. But there were tailing fish all over the place. Most were singles, which can make it a bit tougher. You would see a tail, then it would vanish for a couple minutes. Then show up again 10′ closer to the boat. You could say they were just a bit less “organized”. Once you would find a few fish together, the tails would remain much more active, allowing us a far better target. But we were pleased to see lots of tails working into the early afternoon hours.

Going into the weekend, it looks like we are finally shaking off some of this cloudy/wet weather. Saturday is looking great for our Rockport fishing report. Sunday will be very breezy. So maybe a good day to tie flies and watch some football. Moving on to next week, the weather is looking great. It appears that we will be able to get out every day for the next 10 days, with little concern for the weather. The fish should appreciate the warm sun for a few days as well.

Crab patterns have still taken the most fish lately. Darker colors are by far the best. A well place cast typically rewards the angler. We have been fishing a few other patterns here and there, but the crab is by far out-fishing everything else. Very few looks, without the eat to follow. Haven’t tried the topwater thing the past few days, as we are seeing more fish tailing than blowing up near the surface. But I’m sure we will be tossing them around some this coming week.

We will keep you informed and keep the Rockport fishing report up to date this coming week. And of course folks can always follow along on Instagram or Facebook for the very latest news. We try to post something most every day there. Or of course you can email any time for additional info.

There are still some February dates available to fish. And again, Spring dates have been filling up very quickly. But the winter fishing has been very good. So if you are interested in getting out on the water, contact us soon so you can secure your dates on the calendar.
