Fly Fishing Trips
The middle Texas coast is one of the best areas in the world to get a chance to sight cast at large redish and trout on the flats. Since most saltwater fishing in Texas is dominated by "Bay fishing" out of large deeper draft boats, the shallow flats and remote back lakes are largely unpressured. This gives a great opportunity for fly fisherman to access large schools of tailing or cruising redfish.

The best time of the year for fly-fishing in our area is from April to October, however, some of the best fishing we have every year comes on calm "Blue bird" days in December and January. The wind is a major factor that effects fly fishing, but I can usually find an area that is favorable for sight-casting with the wind. On days with cloudy weather the fish are much more difficult to sight cast to and we usually look for schools of tailing reds. If we have cloudy weather and no tailing reds, we usually switch to light tackle rods rigged with soft plastic lures or topwaters.
For fly tackle I recommend a 7-10 weight rod with weight forward floating line. For backing, 200 yards of 20-30 pound test is sufficient. For leaders, I recommend a single 9' section of 10-20 pound flourocarbon. I use a loop to loop connection for the fly line to leader and tie the leader directly to the fly with an improved clinch knot. In certain conditions a may use a 2-piece leader with one section of 20 pound leader and a small section of 4X-0X tippet. (For help with knots and leader connections look Here). I provide all needed flies and leader material. I also have several extra flyrods available if you don't have your own.
For fly fisherman, the best way to access and fish these remote areas is to use a small poling skiff. I use a 2008 Beavertail poling skiff to sneak up on and sightcast to redfish on the flats.

I have experience fly fishing all over North America from Alaska to Belize. I make a 2 week trip to Alaska every year where we target large Coho, Sockeye, and King salmon on the fly rod.
