May is here and so are the tailing redfish. Fishing is great right now on the The Coast and Rockport, Texas. Large schools of fish are the name of the game right now. Happy fish make happy fisherman.

Another week is in the books here along the Central Texas Coast. Although the weather wasn’t exactly perfect, we were still able to have a pretty darn solid week here on the flats. The red fishing is very good right now, when the weather allows. So our Fly Fish Rockport fishing guides are out there getting it done every day.

Captain Gibson of Fly Fish Rockport is back. This installment, he will be showing you how he ties his Redfish Crack fly. This has grown to become a very popular fly pattern for redfish throughout the country. You can tie this fly in a variety of colors, sizes and weights to suit your conditions.

But in this video, Captain Gibson show you how he likes to tie the Redfish Crack for skinny water and calm water conditions. This version is a bit lighter than others, as well as a bit more subtle in color. Summertime redfish can be a little finicky. So this fly is one of his “go to” patterns for those conditions.

This pattern has become increasingly popular with flats fisherman. Whether it be for Redfish on the flats of Texas, or Bonefish on the flats of Key West, this fly will get it done.

Captain Gibson of Fly Fish Rockport is back again, this time showing you how he ties the Flexo Crab fly. This pattern has become increasingly popular with flats fisherman. Whether it be for Sheepshead or Redfish on the flats of Texas, or Permit on the flats of Key West, this fly is ideal.

This is a fairly easy pattern to tie, although can be a little tricky on the first attempt. We love to tie this fly in white, then easily customize for your fishing environment with permanent marker. Clearly a must have crab pattern for the fly box.

Captain Gibson of Fly Fish Rockport is showing you how he ties the Mantis Shrimp fly pattern. This is one of the best redfish fly patterns, and works equally well on bonefish and permit.

This is a fairly easy pattern to tie, and takes just a couple of minutes typically. Always a good addition to any flybox if fly fishing in Texas on the flats.

Captain Gibson of Fly Fish Rockport is back with another one of his favorite fly patterns for bull redfish. This is a great fly for bull reds in Texas or Louisiana. This fly pushes a lot of water when stripped, which makes it easier for fish to find. Especially in the dirtier waters of Louisiana. A most have for chasing bull redfish.

Captain Gibson is back with another one of his favorite fly patterns for bull redfish. This is a go to topwater fly for big redfish in Louisiana and Texas. It moves a lot of water, makes a lot of noise and is easy for the fish to see in the dirtier water you are accustomed to having in Louisiana. But our bull redfish love this fly in Texas as well. A must have in the fly box.

With our first cold front of the year now come and gone, we are happy to say that Summer is over and we are on to our Fall fishing season. No more hot, muggy days. No more super early mornings. And a lot more happy fish to be had in the cooler months coming. Perfect!

But we wanted to take a second and look back at some of the good times had over the past few months down here on the Texas flats. Also, thanks to all the great folks that spent some time with us on the water.

This little video was shot a few weeks ago fly fishing in Rockport, Texas for redfish. We were getting out to play in our new Cromis skiff, by Black Duck Skiffs. This skiff will be the new choice for Fly Fish Rockport when we want to get out in a micro skiff. These things are lighter, quieter and far shallower than our other Hells Bay boats. Even better, the Cromis is designed to run with a jet outboard. Hand down this is our new favorite boat!

Well, they can’t all work out… I guess. This is a short clip from the 8th of December. Calm winds, cloudy skies and lots of redfish in skinny water. But they weren’t easy. This clip is pretty funny though. You never know what’s gonna happen out there!
