It’s the start of a new week and time for an update to our Rockport Fishing Report. We’ve made it to the middle of April already, and things have been looking up for the past week. Hopefully Spring is here to stay this time and the fishing will continue to get better and better.

All last week the weather was great. Sunday was a bit on the blowy side, with wind gusts reported up to and over 40 mph. But the rest of the week was outstanding. Sun, light winds and comfortable temps made for a really nice week on the water. We had a bunch of boats out all week long and everyone came back with strong reports.

Whether they were fishing in POC, or closer to the Rockport area, the reports were all pretty similar. Tails and schools are starting to become the norm. Particularly in the morning hours. But there have been schools around later in the day as well. Most of the schools are on the smaller size, maybe 5-12 fish. But we’ve seen a few larger schools with upwards of 25 fish. Expect more of those in the days to come for sure.

There are plenty of cruisers and solos as well. Some will be crashing bait on the banks, but most are just moving around looking for food nice and easy. Getting them to eat hasn’t been much of a problem, if presented the right way. Also, they seem to be preferring flies a little bit on the smaller side of things. But a bunch of different patterns have gotten eating this week.

A small crab fly, smaller than a quarter, has been a popular choice. Dark tan or light olive have worked well. Others are throwing some shrimp patterns that are weighted, but smaller. Less than 2″ in length. The fish don’t seem to mind scooping those up easily as well. If you are curious about some of our favorite flies, you can always check out a few of our favorite flies here.

For the week ahead we will still have boats out on the water every day. It’s a bit windier this week, but not too bad. Kind of what you expect during the Spring. Nice mornings, then a bit of wind as you work towards the early afternoon. But the temps are perfect and the fish are happy. So not a bad thing at all.

We will report back later in the week hopefully, with an update to our Rockport Fishing Report for the weekend.
