Experience Texas Coast Fly Fishing with Fly Fish Rockport

Corpus Christi Texas Sunset

The Coastal Bend of Texas boasts some of the finest flats fishing on intracoastal waters in the world. And Fly Fish Rockport and our Texas fly fishing guides are located directly in the heart of it all.

The saltwater fishery of the Texas Coast provides endless options and most are within a short boat ride of one of our many frequented marinas. Target species will vary some by season, but redfish, speckled trout (sea trout, specs), black drum, flounder and sheepshead are in abundance throughout the year. During the warmer months, anglers fly fishing the Texas Coast have the possibility of casting at jack crevalle (jacks), cobia, kingfish or even the shot at a rolling tarpon.

While fly fishing the Texas Coast, you can quickly and easily access numerous saltwater flats, many of which we commonly access from our Rockport marinas. Our Texas Coast fly fishing guides can also show you the unique opportunities at cruising fish in the surf of the gulf. Perhaps you would like a shot at a rolling tarpon off one of the jetties, or maybe even stalk some tailing redfish by kayak or SUP in the incredible waters of the Lighthouse Lakes paddling trails.

No matter what adventure you are looking for, our goal is to provide the best Texas Coast fly fishing experience possible!

What’s Unique About Saltwater Flats Fishing?

Tailing Redfish Near Seadrift Texas

To most avid fly fisherman, fishing a saltwater flat represents the ultimate fly fishing challenge. Flats fishing gives you a unique window into the world of a redfish. The clear, shallow water prevalent in our Texas bays allows you to see fish, before ever making a cast. You will be able to see the fish react to your cast, and hopefully, your fly. Many view it much more similarly to hunting, than simply fishing. Silently stalking the flats, in search of your prey. In our case, that being one of our many spooky redfish.

The redfish on the flats of Texas can be some of the toughest around. Our waters run crystal clear throughout the year, allowing our fish to see everything around them. To be successful here, anglers must be prepared to cast 30-40 feet consistently. Often times, the angler will be asked to do this into marginal winds, with accuracy being paramount. Again, our fish are tough. The angler that can ACCURATELY deliver a 40 foot cast into the wind, with a long leader and weighted fly, will have many quality opportunities at fish. All this providing it is done in as few false casts as possible. Sounds easy enough, right??

That being said, flats fishing is not just for experts. Your Texas Coast fly fishing guides often take out beginner and novice saltwater anglers. While overall success rates may not be that of more experienced anglers, we promise that you will have quality opportunities at fish and become a far better angler by the time you leave.
