Rockport Redfish on the Fly

Welcome to your first September Rockport fly fishing report. Fly fishing here in the Rockport area remains good. The fish are there, especially in the mornings. As the days warm up, they can be a bit tougher. There have been some very warm, calm days as of late. This can make for tough fishing later in the days, and unbearable conditions for the angler. But, Fall is just around the corner! And with it, our best fishing of the year.

First to come, a series of insignificant fronts. But they tend to rid the air of stifling humidity, make the early evening a bit cooler, set up some terrific sunsets and then all of a sudden the early morning is tolerable. Fishing later in the days will begin to be more realistic again. More fish will be present as the shorter days, and more manageable water temps. The fish begin to congregate slowly to form schools as they look for the access from the flats to deeper water when they choose.

Until those foreseeable conditions prevail the red fish continue to follow the ebb and flow of the shrimp, crabs and menhaden to and from the flats of the later summer months. But the redfishing is good right now and will continue to get better and better in the weeks to come. Come on down and lets’ stalk, stealthily!

There are still some late summer dates available and Fall dates for guided fly fishing are booking up very quickly. If you are interested in chasing redfish on the fly in the Rockport area, contact us and we can get your Summer and Fall trips booked.
